Empowering Out of School Youth
Today’s fast-moving society makes it increasingly important for people, especially youth, to understand what is happening in the wider
world. Two issues that face the world today are the environment and the digital divide between rich and poor, cities and countryside.
This project aims to work with out of school youth to create a community of computer literate individuals in order to enhance learning
and empower them for global competitiveness. In order to impart these skills, a ten week long computer class is held on
Saturday mornings for three hours. This course covers the basics of computer and mouse usage, word, and the internet. Twenty
(20) students compose a batch, every ten weeks there will be a new batch of out of school youth.
A group of students at Marcial O Ranola Memorial School (MORMS) decided to confront these issues and conduct a Saturday program for
youth in the community that teaches the basics in computer knowledge while at the same time discussing environmental issues.
